Applications invited from people with a learning disability for the position of co-chair of a new learning disability advisory group
Welsh Government are looking for a person with a learning disability who is interested in becoming the co-chair of a new learning disability advisory group, which will be set up in 2012. The co-chair will stand up for learning disability issues and provide advice to Welsh Ministers. This group follows on from the Learning Disability Implementation Advisory Group (LDIAG).

A national response to the abuse of people with learning disabilities and autism at Winterbourne View
On 21 June Learning Disability Wales joined 85 people and organisations who have worked for many years to help people with learning disabilities live their lives as full and equal citizens in our society in writing to the Prime Minister, David Cameron about the proper response needed to what was seen at Winterbourne View. The letter is in response to systematic, premeditated and emotional abuse of people with learning disabilities uncovered by the BBC at Winterbourne View, a privately-run hospital in Gloucestershire owned by the Castlebeck Group.

National disability organisations in Wales fear Wednesday's announcement by the UK Coalition Government regarding the comprehensive spending review and its potential impact on the lives of disabled people in Wales.

EASPD warns: austerity measures endanger social services all over Europe
On 7th and 8th October 2010 around 200 delegates from the European disability sector came together in Skopje, fYR Macedonia, for the European conference "Current realities - future challenges" to discuss how to promote inclusion of people with disabilities in society. During the conference, representatives of the Macedonian Government confirmed that they will ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the end of the year. This overall good news was overshadowed by the dramatic and disturbing developments in the social sector in the East and Southeast of Europe as brought up by Romanian representatives and many others.

EHRC seeks assurance from UK Government it will fully implement UN convention as new guide is published
A new guide to the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled Persons (UNCRDP) has been published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. It is also available in Easy Read and Video with British Sign Language. As it publishes the guide, the Equality and Human Rights Commission is seeking assurance from Government that the treaty will be fully implemented.

New free service for new or small organisations without a web site
Links-Wales are offering a new free service for small and new organisations that do not have a website. If you do not have a web site for your organisation or project, or are aware of other organisations that work in the learning disability arena, then Rob Symons at Links-Wales can offer a new service of creating specific pages on the Links-Wales website .

Assisitive Technology Project Encouraging People to Complete Online Survey to Assist with its Research
ImPaCT in Europe, a transnational project networking project in the field of ICT and Assisitive Technology, is asking for people interested in the subject to complete an online survey that will assist the project in the mapping of knowledge and experience in the area throughout Europe.

ImPaCT in Europe - Improving Person Centred Technology in Europe
There is an increasing need to use Person Centred Technology (PCT) to provide an enhanced service to end users at a lower unit cost per person. New types of social and health care service provision, such as telehealth, call centres, Assistive Technology for the promotion of health and safety in the home and at work, are becoming increasingly popular across the EU. ImPaCT in Europe, a 3 year transnational project financed by the European Commission and involving Learning Disability Wales, is exploring and promoting the use of PCT throughout Europe.

The Tate Project has produced a useful and informative handbook for organisations and families who wish to implement person centred technology. The guide expertly lays out the case for assistive technology and telecare, putting it in context - how and why it should exist alongside existing services - and provides a clear guide to implementation.
