Who can use person centred planning?
Anyone can use person centred planning to help themselves or somebody they are caring for or support. But, it is essential to learn about it first and to try it out for yourself before planning with anyone. It is also important that those supporting (or facilitating) person centred planning have a genuine belief in disabled people taking more control and that they are willing to encourage the person to look at all life options, not just those that exist within 'special services'.
Remember that person centred planning is something that is done with the person, not something that is done to them. If you wish to learn about person centred planning, you could find out if there is a 'Person Centred Planning Co-ordinator' responsible for training in your area. Or you could contact our Training & Events Team to book a place on an upcoming course or to ask for a course to be put on. Or, you could request the Leaflet indicated above, which lists organisations that deliver training.
