The Person Centred Planning Network

The Person Centred Planning Network

About us

Person centred Planning is a range of approaches (or ‘tools’) that can be used separately or together, to help individuals or families to think about their lives. This way of working is supported by a very strong set of values (or beliefs), that puts the individual in control of their planning and helps them to become more connected to their community (see ‘An introduction to Person Centred Planning’ under Relevant Documents below for more information).

Although most people would agree that it makes sense to use these approaches, there are lots of things that get in the way. Therefore, in 2004 we set up a Wales-wide support group. When we are together we look at how it’s going, what’s working and what’s getting in the way, by looking at real examples. We always try and practice what we preach and run Meetings in a ‘person centred way’ and look at creatively linking individuals together to make the most of our skills and resources.

This Network is open to anyone who is promoting, training people in, or simply using person centred planning in their work or life. We think that it is best if you have already done some training on how to use the approaches, as everybody who comes to Meetings practically knows how it works.

Because the Network has grown so big we now have 2 ‘All Wales’ Meetings per year, that are complimented by 3 Regional Groups who meet 4 or 5 times per year. These groups cover North, South east and Mid and west Wales and are hosted by different members of the network.

At the All Wales Meetings we tend to look at things that affect/or could help all of us, for example:

  • "Lessons learnt from England" (Helen Sanderson & co)
  • "The Planning of an All Wales large-scale event"
  • "Risk (how do we support empowerment and being safe?)"

At the Regional Meetings we try and build in a chance for us to practice some person centred planning.

To get a good idea of how things work please look at Agendas and Minutes under ‘Relevant Documents’.
