'Abuse - Tell Someone' interactive DVD

'Abuse - Tell Someone' is an interactive DVD for adults with learning disabilities to:

  • Give information on your rights to keep you safe from harm and abuse
  • To help you understand what abuse is, and
  • To know what to do if abuse happens to you or someone else you know

Abuse - Tell Someone is the result of a joint project between All Wales People First, Learning Disability Wales, Mencap Cymru and Caerphilly County Borough Council. The DVD was produced in Wales and has been supported and funded by Welsh Assembly Government.

This DVD is highly relevant to adults with learning disabilities in the UK. It will be useful for all staff who support and work with people with learning disabilities in the voluntary sector, private sector, social services, health and education.

Gwenda Thomas, Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, National Assembly for Wales launched the DVD at the All Wales People First Conference in September 2008 and said: "I congratulate those responsible for the 'Abuse - Tell Someone DVD' which is another step in the right direction of protecting people with learning disabilities from abuse."

The interactive DVD is groundbreaking in that it contains audio, visual and written information which allows the viewer to interact with several parts of it which makes it accessible to as many people with learning disabilities as possible.

There are 6 parts:

Part 1: How to use this DVD

Part 2: Documentary about abuse. (10 minutes)

Part 3: Interactive Drama. There are 5 different dramas for you to watch and interactive with, each covering the different forms of abuse. The dramas will allow you to make choices that affect the life of a character named Joe.

Part 4: Quiz Game. You will be given some questions about abuse to answer. Choose from 3 possible answers and see if you can get them all correct. This will help check what you have learnt.

Part 5: Contact details for Protection of Vulnerable Adults Co-ordinators in Wales.

Part 6: Easy Read Leaflet. Easy to read and understand information on abuse. Includes useful contacts and links to websites. The leaflet can only be seen if you play the DVD in a computer.

  • People First and Self Advocacy Groups outside Wales - £20 plus VAT (or &15 plus VAT for 3 or more copies)
  • Other individuals/groups outside Wales - £40 plus VAT (or £30 plus VAT each for 3 or more copies)
